Taina Cunningham – Fresh Wood Studio
Taina is the creator and designer behind Fresh Wood Studio where she designs handcrafted jewelry made from wood and clay materials. Her jewelry is unique and pun intended, a breath of fresh air. I love how light the pieces are which is ear-lobe friendly in my book. I love her whole aesthetic and she really is such a sweet person.
How long have you been creating jewelry?
“I have tried many different creative fields in search for the one that truly worked for me. One I exceled at and one in which I was actually able to create a business out of. Through out that journey, designing jewelry was what I connected with the most and was also able to build a business out of. I have been designing and selling my jewelry since 2016.”
What got you started in it?
“It may sound cliché but this was how it honestly all came to me. One day I was getting ready to go out and I was trying on different pieces of jewelry and nothing felt quiet right. Nothing had the style and pizzazz that I was looking for. A couple of days went by and one morning as I was sitting down doing a painting project with my 2 yr old at the time and it just came to me. I thought I should try designing and making my own jewelry. Jewelry that fit my own style and personality and creating something that others would connect their own unique personalities to as well. After that day I just dove in and haven’t stopped since.”
What's the biggest lesson you've learned?
“I’ve learned not to give up on myself and my ideas. Things don’t happen overnight. They take time, trial and error, work….. LOTS of hard work. You have to learn when you need to push yourself but you also need to learn how to listen to your mind, soul and body when it’s asking for rest and healing. Without you, your business, the life you have outside of business, etc none of that would exist without you. So it’s vital to always remember that you come first before anything.”
Where do you draw your inspiration?
“I draw inspiration from the world that surrounds me on a daily basis. The outdoors, books, paintings, patterns, social media such as instagram and pinterest, coloring and doing art projects with my son. I look at everything with an open mind and when an idea presents itself I run with it.”
What's something your clients might not know about you?
“That I’m an introvert. I hate public speaking, I hate making deals and I hate events where I am surrounded by people that I don’t know but I’m expected to mingle and make connections! Ugh. They turn my stomach and I totally dread them. BUT, a girl has got to do what a girl has got to do in order to make moves so I do whatever I have to do to prepare for it and get out there.”
Where can we keep up with you and your work?
